Overview

The Open Hand Monument is a prominent structure in Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex. It was designed by Le Corbusier, a Swiss-French architect who was also the mastermind behind the city’s overall layout. The monument is made of metal sheets and stands at the height of 26 meters. The hand is a vertical metal structure, with the fingers pointing toward the sky.

The hand symbolizes peace, reconciliation, and unity and is also considered to represent the five human senses. The metal sheets used in the monument’s construction have been arranged so that the sunlight passing through them creates a beautiful play of light and shadow on the ground. The monument has become a popular tourist attraction and is often used as a backdrop for photography. It also serves as a symbol of Chandigarh’s modern architecture and urban planning.
